TBM has taught and implemented time-based
Lean principles for almost 15 years.
Our heritage is rooted in the Toyota Production System (TPS) and its fundamentals, which we learned firsthand through close working relationships
with TPS pioneers, including Yoshiki Iwata (below). Mr. Iwata, a member of the team which created the legendary production system, was a primary
pupil of Taiichi Ohno, developer of the original TPS concept. In recent years, the Toyota Production System has become more broadly known as
Lean Manufacturing.

the most powerful business improvement tools developed in the past hundred years.
To understand LeanSigma, it’s helpful to see how it evolved, beginning with the “Lean” component. More… |

Toyota Production System (TPS)
Based on the concept developed by Taiichi Ohno to drive down lead time, identify and eliminate waste and increase production flexibility. Has
been instrumental in helping Toyota become the world’s most efficient and successful manufacturer.
Just in Time (JIT)
Using the minimum amount of total resources – people, materials, money, machines, etc. – to produce a product and deliver it on
time. One of the two “pillars” of the Toyota Production System.
Lean Manufacturing
A term made famous by James P. Womack, founder of the Lean Enterprise Institute and author of Lean Thinking and The Machine That Changed the
World, as well as many other informative works.
Continuous Improvement
The everyday commitment to create a better product, work environment and business.
Kaizen
Often used as a synonym for "continuous improvement," the word “Kaizen” is the combination of two Japanese words – “Kai” (change)
and “Zen” (good).
Kaizen Breakthrough
TBM’s proprietary one-week, rapid-deployment methodology that employs a focused, team-based approach to continuous improvement. |
